View Article  A New Cult
I believe we are witnessing the birth of a new religion: Jermainism. A key belief of this budding religion is building worship. Over the past three years, I've heard various members of this Sag Harbor-based cult wax rhapsodic about the glories of the building that currently houses the public library here in Sag Harbor. (Full disclosure: I'm an employee of ...   more »

Thanks to everyone who sent kind words about the debut of my blog via e-mail. I deeply appreciate your taking the time to respond. That said, let me also say that leaving a comment here in the blog would be even more appreciated. After all blogs are all about discussion. You don't have to be profound, or verbose (like me). ...   more »

Southampton recently completed reassessing the value of all the privately owned property in the town. If this is your first time here: you may want to read the two posts immediately below this one (in the sidebar) to find out what this blog is about and who is writing it.

If you've been here before: you can dive right into the content, which is listed from newest to oldest in the center column. You can also choose to read by category or by a specific date. Those tools that let you do that are in the right- and left-hand columns.

If you have a problem when trying to leave a comment: please send an e-mail with as much detail as possible about the problem to "ecohen49 at hotmail dot com".

By the way, should you see the words Sticky Posts attached to a blog entry or entries, it just means that those posts will always stay at the top of the blog, and are exempt from the usual date order in which posts are displayed.
View Article  What the Heck is Sag Hampton?
Sag Hampton is an idiosyncratic, sometimes irreverent, sometimes irrelevant view of the goings on in Sag Harbor, NY and the surrounding area. Sag Harbor is one of the communities that comprise the part of eastern Long Island commonly referred to as the Hamptons. Within recent memory (mine), Sag Harbor was known as the "un-Hampton"; populated mainly by working stiffs, writers, ...   more »
View Article  Who's Writing This Stuff?
I'm a pretty typical Long Islander, though not a native of the East End. I've actually only lived on the mainland of the  United States for six of my 56 years. Born in the Bronx (mainland), I moved to Levittown (island) at the age of five. At 20, I moved to Manhattan (island) for five years, and spent one ...   more »
