In the blog LilyPondLane.com.com, S.K. writes about Bridgehampton’s most dangerous intersections/roads (link). Having driven on and through all of them many times, I can tell you she’s not kidding. These roads are dangerous.
Don’t count on the traffic engineers to fix the problems, though. Keep in mind that it was County Legislator Jay Schneiderman who came up with a cheap workable (albeit, temporary) solution for County Road 39, after the county engineers spent decades and thousands of dollars only to come up with a $17M solution which our combined governments (federal, state, county, and town) can’t or won’t come up with the money to pay for. (Come to think of it, that was a problem with Schneiderman’s solution too. Sometimes you just can’t win.)
Anyway, the problems go too deep to be fixed by traffic engineers. The only really workable fix requires getting some of the cars off the road. More on what’s being done on that front in a future post.
